Common Hair Problems That Affect Hair Regrowth

hair regrowth

People pay so much attention to their hair that hair care products flood the market. A good appearance will never be as good as having a healthy mane. However, sometimes hair and scalp problems cannot be helped. These conditions often affect the natural hair regrowth process. Below are some of the common hair problems.

Dandruff

Triggered by a number of reasons including improper PH balance of the scalp, excessive skin cells, infection, poor diet, product build-up, stress, and too much shampooing, dandruff is perhaps the most common hair problem. Dandruff is a condition wherein the skin cell turnover rate increases resulting in a disarrangement of the cells that build up on the scalp and then leads to flaking. The naturally occurring fungus on the scalp called Malassezia furfur is often blamed for causing the event.

Split Ends

When hairstyling, brushing, or combing becomes too much or when there is lack of care, chances of getting split ends are high. Split ends happen when free ends of the dead, keratinized cells that compose the cuticle, the outermost layer of the hair, separate.

Flaky Scalp

Most people would confuse a flaky scalp with dandruff. But both conditions are different. A flaky scalp often results when the scalp is dry. Environmental factors such as artificial heating of a room or office can rob the scalp of its moisture. Over-shampooing or using high-chemical content can contribute to it too. A flaky scalp can inhibit hair growth and often leads to hair loss.

Greasy Scalp

In a greasy or oily scalp, the sebaceous or oil glands produce excessive sebum, the oily secretion that help moisten and protect the scalp skin together with perspiration. When the scalp is oily, the hair naturally becomes oily as well. What makes an oily scalp a bad condition is that it invites serious health conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, and scalp psoriasis.

Hair Loss

More than half of the world’s adult population suffer from permanent hair loss/hair thinning. In most of these cases, the cause is the interplay of genetic and androgenic factors. While it is true that people lose hair every day, permanent baldness is a different story. A cosmetic case of hair loss extends throughout a long period, finalising in a specific or non-specific pattern in men and women, respectively.

All of these conditions must be given attention, either personal or professional depending on the severity. There are a lot of commercial products and alternative medicines that actually do work against any of these conditions.
